My name is Charles E. Liken Jr., Esq., and my journey in the legal profession began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Administration of Justice from the University of Pittsburgh in1995. The passion for law was ignited early, leading me to further my education at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law, from which I graduated with a Juris Doctor in December 2002.
My legal career officially started in 1995 when I served as a Legal Intern at the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office. Here, I learned the ropes of the justice system by supporting 18 trial attorneys daily, coordinating the expunging of criminal records, and getting hands-on experience in the General Trial Unit. This foundational experience was invaluable, leading me to roles as a Paralegal in the Plea Disposition Quickly Unit and the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Unit, where I independently managed cases, dealt with victims, and trained new staff.
After moving to Colorado, I took on the role of Civil/Criminal Investigator at Denver Human Services from August 1997 to October 2003. I conducted over 700 criminal/felony investigations, mastered the art of surveillance, interviews, and report writing, and provided testimony in various legal proceedings. This period also saw me delve into human resources when I became an Acting Sr. Agency Personnel Analyst, counseling on regulations, conducting internal investigations, and aiding in employee performance evaluations.
My educational journey continued to intertwine with my professional one; during law school at the University of Denver, I was a Teaching Assistant for the Academic Achievement Program, assisting first-year law students in mastering legal analysis of first year curriculum and exam preparation. My commitment to legal education was recognized when I received the Denise Stott Award for my leadership and community involvement.
Upon graduating from law school, I was admitted to the State Bar of Colorado in May 2003. I then opened my own legal practice, Charles E. Liken, LLC, where from May 2004 to May 2018, I specialized in Family Law and Personal Injury, offering clients personal, strategic legal solutions.
The call to public service led me back to the courtroom as a Deputy District Attorney for the Colorado 12th Judicial District in Southern Colorado, starting in May 2018. Here, I managed a diverse criminal caseload of misdemeanors and felonies across three Colorado counties, leveraging my experience in both prosecution and defense to serve justice effectively.
Beginning in early 2020, I worked at a boutique law firm rising to Sr. Managing Attorney providing my clients with strategic legal services including:
* Family Law - Pre/Post Divorce Decree
* Criminal Defense - Felony DUI, Domestic Violence
* Civil Protection Orders
* Probate - Litigation and Estate Planning
* Real Estate/Partition Litigation
* Business/Civil Litigation - Company Formation & Compliance - Contract Drafting
* Adoption - Name Change - Name Restoration after Divorce
* Guardianship/Conservatorship
* CFI/Attorney Second Opinion
I then returned to running my own law firm in January 2025 in Longmont, Colorado after doing so for over 14 years from 2004 until 2018.
I am also a Colorado Child & Family Investigator (CFI), and have numerous years experience as a Colorado Licensed Real Estate Broker.
Throughout my career, I've honed skills in providing strategic legal advice. My legal experience of over 30 years has allowed me to streamline processes and improve efficiency at my new law firm: The Longmont Law Firm, LLC, "Where Integrity Thrives".
My journey in law has been one of continuous learning, service, and growth, always aiming to protect the rights and interests of those I represent while contributing to the legal community's broader mission of justice. I built a comprehensive legal career marked by diverse roles, deep community involvement, and a dedication to serving justice with integrity.
